Some states decided to increase taxes on cigarettes and close tax loopholes on other tobacco products for to decrease smoking among their inhabitants.

Anti-tobacco researchers declared that the most effective way to stop smoking is not to start smoking never. Kids are the main reason why anti-smoking campaign will never stop their actions against smoking cigs.

Increased taxes on cigarettes have only benefits, like much more years of health and economic benefits at all levels, socially as well as individually.

The bill’s act against other tobacco products too, like fruit-flavored products sold in bright packaging, which shows a growing awareness that tobacco companies are taking big advantage of cuts in tobacco prevention programs in Washington and through the nation to extending their marketing of smoking products that attract children.

And only raising the cost of tobacco products can be one effective way which will protect youth from that marketing. Raising taxes on tobacco would mean a fell in use among both youth and even adults. According to a lot of studies, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control declared that a 10 percent increase in tobacco prices lowers the number of teen smokers by 3.7 percent and general use by youth and adults by 4.1 percent.

But even with a tax increase, most tobacco users will continue to smoke or chew, because nicotine contained in each cigarette or smokeless tobacco products is addictive.

The proposal to increase to taxes on cigarettes which actually reduce tobacco use will be realized only if an important portion of those tax revenues, expected to be at least $88 million a year.

In general students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more likely than their better-off peers to start smoking earlier and to use more smokeless tobacco products, reported researchers. And also almost all studies showed that low-income adults are much more likely to suffer from smoking-related chronic diseases such as heart attacks, cancer and lung disease.

Statistics show that in 2008, 770,000 Washington adults and youth consumed tobacco, and their tobacco-related health costs were a $1.95 billion burden on the state’s economy.

And also after the tobacco settlement money helped fund the state’s tobacco programs in 1999, smoking in Washington dropped dramatically. Between 1999 and 2006, cigarettes smoking fell 58 percent among eighth-graders, 43 percent among 12th-graders and 21 percent among adults.

So, researchers concluded that with the combination of increased tobacco marketing and loss of prevention funding can not expect to continue the smoking rates fall in Washington.
